Netherlands raises gambling tax
The four major political parties in the Netherlands have come to an agreement to raise the gambling tax rate from the present 30.5% to 37.8%.
The higher tax rate is expected to generate an extra €202 million to the government’s budget, as part of a larger drive to raise additional money. One of the main political parties in the country, the VVD party, supported the agreement, which was finalized late on Wednesday night.
The adjustment of this tax rate is integrated in a broad budgetary document which also covers other important national matters such as asylum policies and fishing regulations. The government named the document “Hope, Courage, and Pride”. It was given to the House Speaker Bosma shortly after 2 a.m to be presented to the broader legislative body on Thursday.
The alterations to the gambling tax is among the list of ways to control the gambling scene more strictly by putting an end to unregulated betting processes conducted through websites where participants engage themselves in such acts illegally.
There are current debates about eliminating some kinds of virtual games thought to have detrimental effects on people such as causing addiction. These discussions include proposals to potentially ban certain online casino products that are seen as harmful or overly addictive.
