UK online gambling sees steady growth: UKGC report

New statistics issued by the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) indicates a steady increase in online gambling in the United Kingdom.

In the analysis, changes in the market year over year over the same period are compared between the fourth quarters of the financial years 2023-2024 and 2022-2023.

The total online GGY increased by five percent year over year to £1.4 billion in the most recent quarter. Slot machines and live event betting continue to be the most lucrative markets for regulated online operators.

With a one percent rise in monthly active player accounts and a six percentage drop in bets made, GGY saw a two percent gain in real event betting to £565 million.

The overall amount of online bets and spins reached a record twenty-four billion, up ten percent from the previous year.

The UKGC stated that there could be some double counting in the quarter-over-quarter data on active accounts due to the possibility of accounts that participate in numerous verticals or are active for more than one month during the quarter being counted more than once.

As opposed to this, high street legal betting providers saw a decrease of three percent in GGY and a decline of one percent in total bets and spins during the same quarter last year.
