Svenska Spel fined 100M SEK for Gambling Act violations
Swedish gambling operator fined for regulatory failures.
Svenska Spel Sport & Casino AB, a gambling operator in Sweden, was warned and fined one hundred million SEK (roughly 11.5 million dollars) for failing to fulfill its duty of care responsibilities under the Swedish Gambling Act.
The Swedish Gambling Authority, more commonly referred to as the Gambling Inspectorate, performed an audit to examine the company’s compliance with the duty of care, with a focus on the ten clients who lost the greatest money during a certain time frame.
Svenska Spel Sport & Casino AB was reported by the Gambling Inspectorate to have not taken sufficient measures to prevent players from engaging in excessive gambling or to help them reduce their wagers when necessary. Chapter 14, Section 1 of the Gambling Act imposed a warning and penalty charge due to the failure to fulfill the duty of care obligations.
The penalty is one of the biggest ever imposed by the Swedish Gambling Authority, underlining the significance of operators following responsible gambling policies in order to protect consumers from damage.
