New York online gambling expansion bill
New York State Legislature is considering a new bill that would permit online gambling.
Given that online betting is now strictly prohibited in New York, this is a major change.
Assemblyman Gary Pretlow has introduced a bill to legalize online gambling in order to increase state revenue. Businesses that hold licenses could offer online casino games to New Yorkers, such as poker, blackjack, and slot machines.
Additionally, the law would make it easier for people to play the lottery from home by allowing them to purchase tickets online. In light of the financial difficulties brought on by COVID-19, proponents of the measure believe that increasing the lottery’s prize and allowing online gambling would boost New York’s revenue. They also believe that regulating online gambling will safeguard players and prevent gambling-related issues.
Some oppose the plan, on the other hand, believing that encouraging gambling could result in addiction and other difficulties. They believe New York should look for other sources of income rather than gambling.
Should the bill pass into law, New York would follow states like Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey in legalizing online gambling. It is still unclear if the law will pass, but if it does, it could have a long-term impact on how gambling operates in New York.
