MGCB targets illegal gambling
Targeting unregulated casino-style gambling machines in local companies, the Michigan Gaming Control Board is stepping up its efforts to stop illicit gambling.
The MGCB acted decisively against illegal gambling operations in 2023, delivering cease-and-desist letters to sixty-four establishments around the state. As a result, 167 illegal gambling machines were taken out. Along with making great strides in asset seizures and liquidations related to these illegal businesses, the agency also dealt a blow to the financial networks that support these kinds of activities.
The MGCB’s investigations, conducted in close cooperation with the Michigan Attorney General’s Office, resulted in the seizure of an additional seventy-nine unlawful gambling machines, nine people being found guilty of criminal gambling, and twenty-four more people being charged with illegal gambling.
Executive Director Henry Williams appreciated the public’s assistance in pushing investigations and urged more collaboration. He encouraged people to report any suspicions of illicit gambling activities as soon as they are discovered and credited the numerous reports from concerned Michigan residents for the success of these initiatives.
With the recent closure of unlawful wagering locations in Flint, the MGCB’s crackdown on gambling extends until 2024. Linos Antonio Kas-Mikha and Robert Jamerson, two people who are suspected of running an unlawful gambling establishment in the area, have been charged with several felonies.
The MGCB is firm in its commitment to safeguarding customers from the negative effects of illicit gambling and upholding the integrity of Michigan’s regulated gambling sector, even as legal processes drag on. Residents are urged to notify the MGCB right away of any suspected unlawful activity.
