BOS opposes proposed Swedish gambling tax hike
BOS has recently published a new announcement explaining the reasons for the organization’s disapproval of the proposed tax increases for Swedish gambling firms.
The organization’s primary reason for opposing the proposal is that increased taxes would go against the Swedish gambling market’s main goal of providing local players with a safe environment to enjoy the pastime. BOS stated that increased taxes would drive a portion of players to unregulated and illegal operators, providing them with an expanded market share in the country.
The organization added that this potential decrease in the market’s channelization rate would come as a result of the unregulated market getting a competitive advantage over their regulated counterparts, as illegal firms do not pay any taxes. BOS also mentioned that it is critical for the Swedish government to actively work towards its goal of 90% channelization, as this goal will establish the foundation for the market’s numerous other objectives, such as ensuring the safety of local gambling enthusiasts.
This announcement follows a few months after the country’s government proposed to increase the taxes for Swedish gambling firms, which was met with quite a bit of criticism by various local companies and organizations. At the time, BOS published a response as well, opposing the change and citing many of the same reasons the organization mentioned in its latest announcement.
