Macau sets limits for the gaming tables and machines
Chief executive officer of Macau, Ho Iat-Seng announced that they are going to set 6 thousand gaming tables and 12 thousand machines for each operator, within the framework of major reforms coming into force in the region.
This announcement about the changes comes after the recent Macau gaming law, based on which there needs to be a maximum number of table machines and minimum gross gaming revenue. The numbers are six thousand for tables and twelve thousand for machines. This new order will apply from next year.
On the contrary the minimum gross gaming revenue amount for each year is 7 million Macanese pataca, and 300 thousand Macanese pataca for the tables. Meaning that those operators who generate a smaller amount of income may find out that the number of machines allowed is less from the general limit.
The most significant changes in the casino law in Macau are the reforms since the liberalization in 2002. This law elevated concessionaires’ number to 6, but withdrew the sub-concessionaires. Additionally, the new rules will necessarily limit the number of junkets that each concessionaire can deal with to one.
The operators welcome the new gaming reforms. According to Melco Resorts & Entertainment, the new law will improve the legal framework and promote the development of the gaming industry in Macau.
The public tender for new concessions has started and is going to last till September 14th. It will apply after the ongoing license runs out at the end of this year.
