Akon obtains land from Uganda government for crypto city

R&B artist Akon has reportedly received a land of one square mile from the Ugandan government in order to begin construction plans for his cryptocurrency-based city, which will be completed by 2036 and will utilize Akoin, the singer’s cryptocurrency, making it the second futuristic African city that he has planned.

Akon is nowhere near completing these plans and his visions of the city which is set to utilize a cryptocurrency he calls Akoin, and built on the land that the Senegalese government handed him. Despite the uncertainty, the singer has been working on the second city, transporting his vision to Uganda this time around.

Uganda has agreed with the singer’s plans, and has been looking for an area to hand over to the singer to work on his plans. The East African nation stated that this land will be over one square mile, given to Akon and his team. Akon will now be working on attracting investors and investment projects, as well as working closely with the Ugandan government in order to find a good theme for this so-called “Satellite city”.

Minister of State for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Isaac Musumba, said:

“We would like to emulate what has been done elsewhere for us to have an Akon City here.”

Akon, 47, is a native of Missouri whose family is originally from Senegal. He has been vocal about his wish to develop a real-life version of the African Kingdom of Wakanda from the Marvel movie Black Panther, released in 2018. Some of his plans for this luxury city involve seaside resorts, a university in skyscrapers and office parks which are all targeted towards being a touristic destination for African-Americans.

The city is also set to be powered by solar energy and will be green, as stated by the singer himself. All residents of the city, along with those visiting, will use the Akoin cryptocurrency as he hopes that it can become a global currency. Aside from that, it was reported by E-play Africa that the Akoin had launched in Mwale Medical and Technology City (MMTC), as a pilot of Akon city.

The city is a $2 billion metropolis which is based on a 5,000 bed medical and technology complex in Kenya’s Kakamega County, as is mentioned on its website. Akoin will be used all over the metropolis, which will be launching towards the end of 2021. Akon’s vision at the moment is to transform Africa into a cryptocurrency oasis.
