Athletes to stop corruption with IBIA’s campaign

The International Betting Integrity Association has started a brand-new campaign made specifically for athletes to support and help them go against corruption in sports.

As part of the campaign, IBIA has released a new video in which they talk about the three principals (or the 3 Rs) that every athlete needs to know about, in order to protect themselves from match-fixing, which is related to betting. The principles are the following:

1. Rules – athletes need to be aware of all the rules about themselves, their sport and betting. They are now allowed to place bets on any of their games, instead of asking someone else to place a bet on their behalf. Besides the rules about betting athletes do not have permission to share any secret details about their team in social media accounts or in general.

2. Responsibility – athletes should take their responsibilities very seriously. Sportsmen need to always be in the best form, give great performance and be responsible for others too. They should not once underperform on purpose, change the results of some games or any part of it.

3. Report – athletes need to report attempts of corruption which they have witnessed. They are always encouraged to discuss such matters with someone they can rely on.

After being in the business for over ten years, regulated operators keep being involved in sportsmen’s education, helping them to talk about the chances of corruption.

Jean-François Reymond, who is the ambassador of athlete education, fully supported the whole process of creating the video. Reymond joined the IBIA this year.
