Spain considers centralized gambling data registry
The main regulatory body in Spain, DGOJ, has started discussing the management and exchange of gambling-related data via a “common data registry.”
Customer information from all of Spain’s licensed casino operators would be gathered by this unified system. Discussions to set up this registry started on May 16, 2024.
The idea for this data repository came from a March 2023 law aimed at promoting responsible gambling. The registry will assist the DGOJ in keeping an eye on how gambling enterprises operate and communicate with their clients, with a special focus on younger customers under 25 and monitoring their risk levels.
Mikel Arana, the Director General, is in charge of the negotiations. He stresses that the said record will bring about greater transparency and accountability when it comes to gambling activities and at the same time enhance instances of responsible gambling to the highest level possible.
The implementation of this system is expected to be an aspect of Spain’s plans to establish the strictest regulations in Europe for customer verification and gambling monitoring by 2025 (also known as KYC).
More in-depth discussions with various stakeholders, such as gambling companies and consumer groups, are part of the upcoming steps, which are designed to make everything ready for the new regulations to go into force in early 2025. This is just one step in a larger campaign to ensure responsible and safe gambling in Spain.
