ACMA fines media firm for gambling advertising breaches

The ACMA has recently issued a 13 thousand Australian dollar fine to the Seven Network.

The Australian regulatory authority’s latest penalty was issued to the television network for displaying an advertisement for an online gambling business outside of the allowed hours set out by the Australian gambling advertising laws. ACMA mentioned that the violation took place on the 12th of December last year at 10:38 in the morning, with the advertisement for the gambling business being shown during an NFL match.

The authority mentioned that advertisements for various gambling services cannot be displayed during sports events that are broadcast between 5 in the morning and 8:30 in the evening, with a period of five minutes before and after matches being prohibited for gambling advertisements as well.

ACMA mentioned in its announcement that the company’s penalty of just over 13 thousand Australian dollars has already been paid by Seven. The authority added that this fine was the highest amount it could impose for this case. Additionally, the media firm told the authority that this violation was a one-off event and that it has already enhanced its internal systems to ensure such errors are avoided in the future.
